It is common knowledge that a nurse is an integral part of the healing process. But what you may not realize how important it is as you are a nurse and how you can help the patient to weather a difficult time. Although there are hundreds of different ways that a nurse can help make a difference to a patient, these are some of the most frequently cited.

  Taking the time to Listen

Although it seems cliché © d that doctors can not be bothered to listen to their patients, this is often the case in situations where the surgical or medical care is part of the emergency. They simply have too many patients to spend time with each - that responsibility rests with the nurse on duty. .

As a nurse, you can sit with a patient and simply allow them the opportunity to say what's on your mind. Their concerns may contain important information that a doctor needs to know and can relay the patient's doctor for the care and welfare. Even five minutes of waiting time for the patient, a hand and ask what else may be affecting them is a great way to do more for their health.

Winning the trust of a patient

How do you take the time to listen to your patients, you will also find that the patient can trust you more and will tell you honest answers. Often a patient may be afraid to tell the truth, thinking that will hinder their care or cause them to hear bad news. But when you talk with a patient and they know that everything will be fine, they will be able to feel comfortable telling you more.

Also, how you treat the patient with respect and courtesy, you will be able to make them more comfortable as they are healing. Instead of being nervous that are just another number or in the hospital bed, a nurse may be the cheering squad for the recovery of the patient.

  Noticing when things are wrong

As a nurse, with more time to see a patient in their everyday setting, you may start to notice when things do not seem right, well before a trial could ever say that. With more experience in patient care, you may be able to recognize when a patient needs to see a doctor for further assistance, or when they may need a new drug or therapy.

Although it may not be your place to recommend an alternative form of care, taking into account the time to notice when things seem 'off' with his patient can mean the difference between a long hospital stay and one that is much more brief.

What do you need to Connect

In order to establish a relationship with their patients, it can help to see them as people in your family, but not so much that you become too emotionally involved. Think about their patients as people who may be scared and worried, and they need your help to feel more comfortable.

Always be polite to them, taking the time to really listen to their concerns and questions. Where are questions you can not answer, be sure to find someone who can.

Creating a connection with a patient can be as simple as holding your hand through a test, but surely it is worth spending extra time you beside them.
